“O LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me!
Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.”
But you are a shield around me.
O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head.
To the LORD I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill.
I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.
I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side.
Arise, O LORD!
Deliver me, O my God!
Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.
From the LORD comes deliverance.
May your blessings be on your people.
Reading this psalm as though it was one of the children from the center reading it blew me away. It just reminds me how the LORD is control and holding each of them in His hands. It convicted me in the fact that the doubt and hopelessness that I feel over some of these kids speaks darkness into their lives – I’m sowing hopelessness into them. No sickness or disease is too big for God, no situation or circumstance is beyond Him. These children go to bed hungry every night with all sorts of dangers lurking around them but even still they wake again because the LORD sustains them. I have really see how God has been working in these children, one little girl named Bongiwe, who comes from a desperate situation who always looks to the ground and always conveyed immense sadness is actually looking up at you when she speaks. She’s laughing and showing a joy that can only come from the Lord. Two HIV positive brothers, Zolani and Sandziso, who were in terrible conditions when we first got there are getting healthier and gaining weight. They are such a testimony to God’s healing hand.
